Hi Vishwa
It's a two part essay, so in the first part you need to look at one or two
causes of antisocial behaviour/being disrespectful, which is defined as any behaviour which causes alarm, distress or harm to someone else. It may manifest itself in bad language, violence or damage to property. The key causes are usually broken into four areas:
Family environment -poor parental discipline and supervision
-family conflict (between parents or between parents and children)
-family history of problem behaviour
-parental involvement/attitudes condoning problem behaviour
Schooling & educational attainment -aggressive behaviour (e.g. bullying)
-lack of commitment to school
-school disorganisation
-school exclusion and truancy patterns
-low achievement at school
Community life / accommodation / employment -community disorganisation and neglect
-the availability of drugs and alcohol
-lack of neighbourhood attachment
-growing up in a deprived area within low income families, high rates of unemployment and a high turnover of population
-being in areas where there are high levels of vandalism
Personal and individual factors-alienation and lack of social commitment
-early involvement in problem behaviour
-attitudes that condone problem behaviour
-for young people, a high proportion of unsupervised time spent with peers and friends or peers involved in problem behaviour
-mental illness
-early involvement in the use of illegal drugs and crime
The second part of the essay is to suggest what can be done about it. Depending on the causes you focus on, action can be taken by
-individuals (a conscious effort not to respond with bad behaviour),
-parents,
-schools,
-professionals (educational psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers),
-organisations (community centres, charities and so on)
-and the government (improving training and employment opportunities, upgrading housing stock, better policing, cleaning up the streets in terms of graffiti/trash as well as drugs, providing youth centres and counselling opportunities for 'damaged' youngsters and ineffective parents.)
It's a VERY big topic, so there are many different ways to approach it. You would need to think of examples from your own experience. Maybe you witnessed bullying at school, or children swearing, youths vandalising a car, or aggressive behaviour from a drunk: all would serve to illustrate anti-social behaviour, be linked to a cause, and a solution could be offered.
I'll work on a couple of models to post, but in the meantime, do you want to try one?
Kind regards
Teacher Jill
