This letter has a slightly different focus from the 'Best Neighbours' question. Compare!
Your local newspaper is running a competition for the best neighbour. Write a letter recommending your neighbour explaining
About you and your neighbour
Where you both live
Why your neighbour should win
Dear sir,
My name is Helena Green and I reside in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow. As you may know, it is a quiet residential area with a mixture of retired people and young families. I live on The Ropewalk and my grandmother lives around the corner on Mount Road.
Yesterday, I learned about your ‘Best Neighbour’ competition for local residents and I would like to nominate Anita Fairbanks who lives across the road from my gran. Anita is a single parent and works as a supply teacher. She also works part time as a cleaner at the local hostel. She struggles to make ends meet, but is one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met.
Two months ago, she was on her way to work when she noticed gran’s door was open. She went over and realised that gran had had a stroke. She called an ambulance and sat with her until they came. Because she was couldn’t get to work, she lost her wages. She visited my gran in the hospital, and ever since gran came out of hospital, Anita has popped over to see her every day and make sure she is okay. It has really boosted gran’s confidence while she recovers from the stroke, and is a great help to me as I work in Edinburgh during the week and am only at home at weekends.
Without Anita’s help and support, life would have been very difficult for gran and worrying for me and my family, so I would be very grateful if you would consider my nomination as Anita is the kind of neighbour everyone should have.
Yours faithfully
Helena Green
