Dear editor,
My name is Helena Green and I reside in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow. As you may know, it is a quiet residential area with a mixture of retired people and young families. I live on The Ropewalk and my grandmother lives round the corner in Mount Pleasant.
Yesterday, I learned about your ‘Best Neighbours’ competition for local residents and I would like to nominate my neighbours, Glenda Wilson, Shana Green and Tom Watson for the award. They are some of the kindest and most generous people you could meet and together we have a dream which winning your prize could help us achieve.
Our community hall was closed last year and the elderly residents in the area have nowhere to meet. For some, it was the only time they saw another face. Since the centre closed, Glenda and Shana have been taking it in turns to invite elderly neighbours to their home for ‘tea and talk’ every Wednesday morning. Tom, although he is in a wheelchair, offers a paper collection service, running down to the local shop for everyone’s papers in his mobility scooter. I run the local neighbourhood watch, and always call on any of my elderly neighbours that haven’t been seen for a day or two. I think my neighbours and I should win the prize of £10,000 so we could realise our dream to open our own community centre for all our neighbours – including my grandmother - to enjoy.
I would be very grateful if you would consider my nomination and enclose a photograph of me and my neighbours at our last ‘tea and talk’.
With sincere regards,
Helena Green
