Some people say globalization permits the purchase of a wide variety of international products, while other people believe it is important to buy local ones to support the local economy. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Globalisation has made goods from one country accessible all round the world, enabling people to buy products manufactured thousands of miles away. While some prefer to support their local economy by buying locally produced goods instead, I believe there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Global brands from well-known firms such as Samsung, Levis or Lavazza are now sold anywhere, which means that that people who are not in South Korea, the USA or Italy can still have access to the same goods and products which meet international standards. Via the Internet, they also have access to a wide variety of producers in far-flung places which were not available in the past. This means that products which are unique to an area reach a wider audience, and those which are technologically superior, or use cutting edge design are accessible in countries which do not have the same manufacturing capabilities. That said, often branded products are more expensive than locally produced ones, and they contribute to issues such as pollution because they have to be transported around the world. They also take jobs from the local economy and send hard-earned dollars overseas.
Buying locally means that jobs and economies are protected and it supports local enterprise. There are often other advantages, too, such as products which cater to local tastes and cultures, which global manufacturers are not interested in producing. When it comes to fresh products like food or flowers, there are distinct advantages to buying locally as products are fresher and healthier than those that are picked unripe, irradiated and covered in preservatives before being shipped thousands of miles from their place of origin.
In short, while global products may offer advantages in terms of international brands and technological expertise, local products provide benefits to domestic economies and have benefits of their own.
