Students sometimes lose marks on Task Response because they don't answer the question. Even really excellent English users can make this mistake. Always read the question more than once, and be careful if the question has more than one sentence. One might be background information and NOT the actual question.
Here are some examples:
University students should pay in full for their own education instead of the society funding their studies. The reason is that individuals tend to benefit after graduation more than the society. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give your own opinion.
The question should not focus on reasons why students should pay for their own education (or why society should not). The question is whether you think the individual graduate gets most benefit from a university education or whether society as whole benefits more.
Modern technology has a great impact on our environment. Some say that people should adopt a simple lifestyle to solve this problem, while others argue that the technology itself should provide a solution. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The question is not about the impact technology has on the environment. The question wants you to discuss whether people should adopt a simple lifestyle so that technology doesn't impact the environment AND whether technology can provide a solution to the impact on the environment.
Due to development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in some countries, many small, local business are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local business will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The question is not about the development of supermarkets and how small businesses can't compete. The question is whether (or not) you think that local communities will die if local businesses close.
Always pay close attention to the question to get high marks for Task Response!
