Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required.

In the subject of improving people's lifestyle in a healthier way, we can find two diverging opinions on this matter: some believe that creating more sports centers and amenities are the best solution, while others will emphasize that this isn't enough. My opinion is very similar to this second group, even though a higher number of sports facilities is an interesting beginning to incentive the local population in doing more exercises, we need other efforts.
Thinking a increased number of sportive facilities could be a solution in making people healthier, it would be easy to understand on a logical thought: more places for playing sports, should be equal to easier access to them, therefore, more people would go there. Unfortunately, this solves only on part of the question and it lacks a more complex view of the situation, we not only need more sports centers available, but we also should increase people's will for actually going to one of them.
A real example that can proves that awareness is another important factor in increasing the number of people going to the facilities is: within five blocks of my house, there are two gyms, a gymnasium and a park, even though I have four different nearby sports amenities at a walking distance from my home, I hardly ever go to any of them.
With that example, we can note that having more sports centers may helps to solve the sedentarism and public health problem, but it's not nearly enough to actually change it. A public campaign to raise awareness could add a lot in waking up a will inside of people's mind, showing why and how they could be healthier or illustrating all the advantages on their daily life. Sports should be promoted as happy moments on someone's day and a time to have fun and enjoy with friends and family.
In conclusion, for improving the public health on the subject of regular exercises, constructing more amenities is only a small part which needs much more to be effective.
